Plan Your... Reunion

Military Reunions

Waterloo is the perfect location for your annual reunion. We will warmly welcome your attendees to our city, which is the hometown of the military heroes, the Five Sullivan Brothers, whose untimely death together touched the world. Our Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center is rightly named after these brothers and provides amble conference space for your welcome reception, special luncheon, and farewell banquet “all under one roof.”

We can make special arrangements for a memorial service complete with a bugler and color guard at Veterans Memorial Hall located a half block from your convention site. Built in 1915 along the banks of the Cedar River, it has been recently refurbished back to its original grandeur and is completely handicapped accessible. The building houses wartime mementos such as uniforms, medals, photographs, and weapons from the Civil War to present day. This location can be used for catered luncheons and dinners.

The Grout Museum of History & Science recently opened their 30,000 square foot addition to the existing museum, the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum. It has permanent and rotating exhibits that describe and interpret the role and exploits of Iowans in the defense of our nation. We could have a very nice reception there or various meetings if you wish.

Plus, the John Deere Tractor Assembly makes a great tour. You board a trolley that takes you through the complete manufacturing process, from the molten parts to where the tractor rolls off the assembly line. During World War II, the main plant downtown was reconfigured to manufacture parts for the Sherman tank. We even have guest speakers available, a “Rosie the Riveter” that can speak during a special catered event. Other off-site activities can include a visit Heritage Farm for a hay wagon ride, home-cooked meal, and sing-a-long, Hansen’s Dairy Farm, or test your luck at the Isle Casino.
