Antique Lover's Dream - One Day Tour
Our first stop this morning will be the Ice House Museum, one of only three in the Midwest still remaining. It was once used to store ice from the river until it could be delivered to the ice boxes of local residents. Today it houses two levels of antique machinery, tools, clothing and even an old-time dentist office complete with chair and tooth pulling instruments. Now it's off to see the machines of yesteryear in action! Visit Antique Acres and watch demonstrations of the earliest washing machine, threshers, tractors, early engines and much more! Let's stop for lunch at Barn Happy. This eclectic dairy barn refurbished into a cute gift shop selling Iowa made products, crafts and antiques. Antiques, Antiques, Antiques...everywhere you look you will find these relics of the past, some for sale, others just for viewing. Take a guided tour of Waterloo with out step-on tour guide. See why more that 100,000 people call the Cedar Valley home. Step into the “Mansion of Waterloo.” When built for a mere $5,000, the Rensselaer Russell House was the showcase of the community. It has been decorated with many of the families’ belongings. End the day with a visit to the Calico Hen’s House, a charming store with 50 dealers with antiques, country, collectibles, decorating accessories, and furnishings.
